Reptiles
Reptiles can be either easy to photograph, like turtles, or very difficult to photograph, like lizards. In between are the snakes, some of which practically pose for you, while others disappear like smoke into the nearest cover.
Quick Notes:
Lizards
We only have four species of lizards in Pennsylvania, of which only three are found in the mountains: the Fence Lizard and two skinks, Coal and Five-lined. These guys are quick and wary and can be very difficult to approach.
Snakes
Quite a few snakes in the mountain, most of them harmless and unassuming. We do have two venomous species, Copperheads and Timber Rattlesnakes, but they are easily avoided. Our most common snake is probably the Black Rat Snake, and just about any body of water is likely to have its own Water Snake.
Turtles
We only have seven species of turtles in the mountains. They range from the almost entirely aquatic Snapping Turtle to the almost entirely terrestrial Box Turtle.
